Lower fees, local skills - half price* courses

How would you like to get a nationally recognised and accredited qualification but pay only half-price course fees?

From tourism and hospitality to commercial cookery, aged care to automotive and engineering, business and IT, healthcare and childhood education, electrical to heavy vehicle mechanical technology — to name just a few — there really is something here for everyone under the Lower fees, local skills program, and this is where the jobs are!

These qualifications are matched up with the skills employers are looking for, so you'll be job ready.

What's new?

In January 2020, the Lower fees, local skills program started with 18 half price course fees qualifications at North Regional TAFE. On 2 July 2020, a further 24 half price course fees qualifications were announced at NR TAFE in a broad range of industry areas. If you think you've seen the Lower fees, local skills courses already, take another look!

What's better than half price course fees? How about an annual fees cap!

That's right — regardless of how much the course fees for your qualification actually are, you will not pay more than the set fees cap amount per qualification or course.

24 new qualifications were added to Lower fees Local skills on 2 July 2020. Fee caps for these courses apply from that date.

  • All students aged 15—24 years of age are eligible for an annual concession course fee cap of $400
  • For all eligible concession students, the annual course fee cap is $400
  • The annual course fee cap for non-concession students is $1,200

Please note that only course fees are half price for the Lower fees, local skills qualifications. You may be required to pay other fees that apply to your course. Please check our FAQs for further information, or speak to Client Services Team.
